40th Annual Kinetic Grand Championship
Saturday, Sunday & Monday • Arcata to Ferndale
The race will launch from the Arcata Plaza on Saturday, May 24th at the noon whistle. With the recent passing of Our Glorious Founder, the race is a tribute to Hobart Brown this year, the master artist who started our glorious tradition. This year, expect to see wild Kinetic Kontraptions as they compete in the "Triathlon of the Art World", racing over 42 miles of land, sand, water and mud. Join us on the Plaza, May 24th beginning at 9 am to see the brake tests and meet the Kinetic Pilots who do it all for the glory.

Chemistry & Physics Discovery Day
Saturday, May 10 • 10 am to 12:30 pm & 1:30 to 4 pm
Ages 7 to 14. The HSU Departments of Chemistry and
Physics host a drop-in, interactive workshop in physical
science. The morning session will focus on chemistry, while the afternoon will be devoted to physics. In each session, children can engage in discovery-based, hands-on experiments probing the chemical and physical properties of matter & energy at a variety of stations staffed by students in HSU’s Elementary Education program.

How to Identify Mammal Skulls
Saturday, May 31 • 2 to 5 pm
$25 members/students ($30 non-members)
In this hands-on workshop you will learn to identify the most common local species of north coast mammals. Then learn basic skull and tooth anatomy. Finally, learn how to use a dichotomous key to identify unknowns.
